Umdloti is well served with small local shops that provide a wide range of every day needs. This page describes the shops in Umdloti, with links to their web pages......... There are also three major shopping centres within a 10km (6 miles) radius: La Lucia Mall, Gateway Theatre of Shopping and Ballito Lifestyle Centre.

SEASIDE LIQUORS

This has to be one of the best liquor stores in the Zulu Kingdom!

Seaside Liquors or “The Umdloti Bottle Store” as it is affectionately known, is situated next to the filling station by the traffic circle. (note the temperature in the photo!!!)

Privately and proudly owned and run by locals, this relatively small store is well stocked. Prices compete very well with the major chains too, especially on local beers and popular brand spirits. They have GREAT PRICES often beating leading discount liquor merchants like Makro and Liberty Liquors and some good wine deals at times too…….

Be sure to visit Adonai Art & Décor in the Umdloti Centre (next to Ninos), where you can purchase exquisite and unique home décor items, Balinese wooden carved ornaments, colonial men, ethnic collectables, nGuni skins, stunning wedding and birthday gifts and art. Friendly Grocer

Managed by a family proprietor, with efficient and friendly staff. Prices can be a bit on the high side, but often worth it for convenience. Stocks most household groceries. Small range of fresh fruit & veg plus some fresh meat (there is a wider quality range at the Spar shop, see below). A Post Office service is available, take-away fast foods and limited range of wines, plus newspapers and magazines including the Mail & Guardian and International Express. Open very early until late.

Umdloti Spaza

These informal street traders situated next to the taxi rank, rivals well stocked Friendly and Kwik Spar franchises. Support the locals – it’s fun!!!. At the same time catch a minibus taxi ride to the Verulam fresh produce market where you can buy a large range of fresh goods and spices at genuine market prices whilst experiencing the fun and excitement of a traditional oriental bazaar (market only opens from 07h00 to 11h00 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays).

Umdloti Kwikspar

Must be the long hours… managed by a grumpy proprietor, with friendly and efficient staff. Good range of fresh produce, fruit, veggies, cakes and pastries, and wines. Expensive but convenient for fresh produce. Local Newspapers and Magazines available. Parking can be very difficult at the White sands centre during peak periods.

Umdloti Beach Shop

Located across the road from the tidal pool – perfect place for a beach shop. Offers beach clothes and swimwear, beach toys, beach shoes and fishing nets. Supplies postcards, too.

Umdloti Video Shop

Again at the White sands centre, on Main Road. Wide selection of DVD’s and videos for hire at reasonable prices.

Umdloti Pharmacy

Asha and her team are experienced in providing advice and medication for all those holiday ailments, along with regular prescriptions and preparations. The pharmacy also officers a nice range of beach clothing, and a full range of toiletries. There is a Bling section too!
