Some
pictures of the waves and the damage caused to South and North Beach Roads in
Umdloti following equinox tides combined with strong winds and high seas caused
by a cyclone off the coast of Madagascar. The entire east coast of KwaZulu Natal was subjected to the awesome natural force of giant 10m waves and it took a violent lashing from the power of the sea. 22 March 2007
Umdloti rode the waves well
compared with our less fortunate neighbours to the north and south because all
properties in Umdloti are built safely above the highest of high water lines.
Our thanks to David of
Tahiti, Lynne of
Umdloti Resort and Kirsty of
Drifters Dolphin Coast Inn for pics of the waves and photos of damage to Umdloti's North and South Beach roads and destruction at Ballito and Uvongo.
